Here a selection of images of some of my handmade books. My work uses the idea of collections & categorisations as a starting point. I often depict everyday or very mundane objects that are universal, yet communicate in a very personal or intimate way. I am interested in how certain items conjure up stories or ideas about their owners and how this allows people to create their own narratives.

Often when we give a book as a gift we write a dedication on the first blank page. Libraires stamp and attach barcodes and we might write in our name and address for ownership. 'Mine' looks at how we treat books, the marks we leave inside. I also liked the idea of creating a book where the reader never progresses past the front page throughout the whole of the book.

Shoebox is a book containing drawings of all the shoes I own, drawn from above and below and housed in a minature shoe box. Shoes are the only garment we wear which retains the shape, the personality, the essence of the wearer. The shoes are a complete variety of shapes and sizes designed for different uses. Inviting the viewer to explore the differences between them whilst having to regard them all in the same category.

See below. A collection of shopping lists found in trolleys, on pavements and supermarket floors, ordered alphabetically by the first item on the list. They are material fragments of different lives on which small desires and needs are recorded. Whether written on a dedicated piece of paper, post it note, the back of an envelope, a specially cut out piece of cereal box or the back a buisness card it provides us with extra clues.
